THE EPISTLE TO THE HEBREWS
From beginning to end, the epistle to the Hebrews speaks of Christ. Addressed to Jewish converts to Christianity, who were, under the pressure of persecution, feeling the tug of the Levitical system into which they had been born and which, until their conversion, had given form and meaning to their lives. Fearing lest they would turn back, the unnamed author presents them - and us - with the supremacy of Christ. In this commentary on the epistle, Bernie Payne traces the ways in which the superiority of Christ's Person, priesthood, and sacrifice are presented. Like the epistle itself, this book reminds us of all that we have in Christ and should stir our hearts with appreciation for our great High Priest and a desire to 'go forth therefore unto Him without the camp, bearing His reproach' (13:13).
